Chinese Language Resources

Clavis Sinica: Chinese Reading and Reference Software
This website, in addition to being a source of what seems like really great Chinese software, contains some cool free resources such as flashcards, a dictionary, and more.

Zhongwen.com
Zhongwen.com is a popular online Chinese dictionary.

Nanhai.com
Nanhai.com contains a good bookstore with instructional books for all levels of Chinese learners and many very good dictionaries.

Google Language Tools
This is a great online translator that I use all of the time. Though online translators aren't very good for translating large segments of text, they are great for translating names and places from Chinese to English.

Babelfish
This is another great online translator that I use very often. Again, online translators aren't very good for translating large segments of text, but they are great for translating names and places from Chinese to English.

Baidu.com
Baidu is a popular Chinese language search engine. I like using it when I come across a phrase I am unfamiliar with. It helps to search the phrase and see within what context they are used in Chinese websites.

ChinesePod.com
I've heard great things from a few friends about Chinese Pod, a website where you can purchase affordable audio lessons that are really well done.

BBC News in Chinese
The BBC has great news reporting, as well as audio broadcasts, in Chinese.

Chinese-Tools.com
This website has tons of really cool resources for learning Chinese. It's highly recommended.

Zdict.net
This is a really good Chinese dictionary, especially for looking up idioms. I don't think the website contains any English.

Learn Chinese Online
"This page helps you to learn Chinese. No matter where you are, we are with you..."

China Travel Resources

The Lonely Planet
Lonely Planet makes great guide books for just about everywhere. When I lived in China I had both their China guidebook and their Beijing guidebook.

Elong.net
This is a the Chinese version of Orbitz or Expedia. It has lots of good deals on plane tickets and hotels. It's a great resource if you want to travel within China once you're already over there.

The Beijinger
This is the website of a very popular expat magazine in Beijing. If you're living there, or even just visiting, it's good to check out every now and then to see what's going on in the Big Dumpling.

Study Abroad Resources

CIEE
This is a wonderful organization to study abroad through. I had a really good experience with them in Beijing.

Freeman-ASIA
Freeman-Asia offers a great scholarship opportunity to those interested in studying abroad in Asia. If you would like to study abroad this is, without question, something to look into.

Peking University
Peking University has good international admission programs, worth looking at if you're considering learning or improving your Chinese. In addition, this is one of the best schools in China (considered China's Harvard) with a political history that cannot be rivaled.

Beijing Language and Culture University
I've had several friends directly enroll into this university to study abroad. They've all had nothing but great things to say. Though this school doesn't have quite the reputation of Peking University, they don't require any previous Chinese study to enroll. This is definitely worth checking out.

Chinese Adoption Resources

Families with Children from China
This is an excellent web resource for those who have adopted children from China.

China Adoption Coach
This website is developed by a Licensed Psychologist and Life Coach who has experience adopting from China. It is dedicated to helping you successfully meet the challenges of parenting your adoptive child.
